PARLIAMENT of Zimbabwe is set to hold its inaugural Open Day next week to give an opportunity to members of the public to tour the Parliament building and to mix and mingle with their legislators.
The Open Day will be held under the theme “Parliament Open Day: Celebrating 37 years of independence and parliamentary democracy.”
The two day event will run from 8 to 9 of June 2017.
In a statement, Parliament said the holding of its Open Day is in fulfillment of the Constitutional mandate of facilitating public involvement in the legislative process.
“Parliament of Zimbabwe will be hosting its inaugural Open Day on Thursday 8th June and Friday 9th , 2017 in fulfillment of its constitutional mandate of facilitating public involvement in its legislative and other process of its committees,” read part of the statement.
“The two day expo will afford the members of the public a unique opportunity to intimately interact with MPs, gain an in-depth understanding of Parliament and the role played by their elected representatives in advancing the hopes and aspirations of the people of Zimbabwe.”
The Open Day event will see various Parliament departments and their development partners stage an exhibition at the National Art Gallery from the 2nd– 7th of June.
“In addition , the National Art Gallery will mount an exhibition on the history of Parliament at the National Art Gallery in Harare from June 2nd to 7th.”
