THE Zanu PF Manicaland Provincial youth league chairman Mbuso Chinguno says the only birthday present that befits President Robert Mugabe next year will be one million votes.
Addressing thousands of Zanu-PF youths who converged in Mutare, Chinguno urged them to be pro-active ahead of 2018 general elections.
“Next year we want to give our President a befitting birthday present in the form of one million votes by youths alone. We want to make history and vote for President Mugabe. Don’t waste your votes by thinking about other people,” he said.
Thousands of youths from the eight political districts in Manicaland Province gathered in Mutare, for the Zanu PF Manicaland Inter-District Conference which was held as part of the preparations for President Mugabe’s Meet-the-Youths Rally scheduled for the 16th of June in the province.
Speaking at the same occasion, Zanu-PF Politburo member and Secretary for Youth Affairs Kudzai Chipanga said President Mugabe is the party’s presidential candidate for 2018 and party members should respect the one centre of power principle.
The national youth league executive members, accompanied by the provincial leadership, first toured Sakubva Stadium, the proposed venue for the rally.
“2018 is around the corner and we all know that opposition parties will bring up the issue of President Mugabe’s age. Let me tell you as Zanu PF we don’t look at age we are going to vote for the wisdom that our leader has, he is the only leader who will take us where we want to go,” Chipanga said.
Zanu PF Central Committee member, who is also Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Manicaland Mandi Chimene also took the opportunity to urge the youths to take up the empowerment opportunities being ushered in by the Zanu PF government to transform their lives.
President Mugabe is expected to visit all of the country’s 10 provinces meeting the youths in order to have a better appreciation of the challenges faced by young people.
