…victim takes legal action

Anna Masukangoto (45)who recently endured the full wrath of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Ngundu villagein Masvingo after she was handcuffed to the fence for 7 hours has filed a letter of complaint against the police conduct to the station Officer Commanding.
According to Ngundu villagers who witnessed the incident say the violation was carried out by two policemen who were only identified as Constable Dzinamo and Mlumbwa stationed at Chinyika base in Bhasera handcuffed Masukangoto (45) and tied her to a local school fence for several hours accusing her of allegedly conniving with other villagers to oppose the construction of a church on land reserved for livestock grazing.
In a letter submitted through her lawyer, Blessing Nyamaropa of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, Masukangoto said what she went through was clearly a violation of her dignity and such conduct puts the name of the police force into disrepute.
“The conduct and action of the police were in violation of her rights, to human dignity, freedom from torture or cruel inhuman, degrading treatment or punishments and right to health and not in with mandate of the police,
“She that the conduct of two policemen put the name of the police into disrepute and requires action from your office”, reads the letter in part.
ZLHR said the letter has already been served and is awaiting police response.
